The 4 Pillars of Unconventional Home Design According to Nuanced

Every home needs a strong foundation. Nuanced art & interiors designs rooms & products based on 4 foundational concepts, neurodivergence, parenting, feminism & democratic design. Each concept has it's own post to dive deeper. Keep reading for an overview of each one.

The first is Neurodivergence. 'Neuro' meaning nervous system. 'Divergence' - different. Different nervous systems respond differently to visual stimulation, colors, textures & lighting, to name a few. Considering sensory sensitivities is key when creating a safe place for your neurospicy self & family to land. & this is just one aspect of neuro diversity to incorporate into interior design.

The second is Parenting. Raising kids is hard. Raising neurodivergent kids is even harder. The goal at Nuanced is to provide tools to integrate structure into your home to carry as much of the weight of everyday parenting as possible. Nuanced is for neuro divergent families but by no means do you need an official diagnosis. All are welcome to use any tools that make family life easier. Take what works and leave the rest.

The third is Feminism. While family equality has certainly come a long way; there is still typically one primary parent. The primary parent is still usually the mother. A mother with ADHD faces her own unique difficulties & stigma, even if she isn't the primary parent. Maybe especially then. We need to talk about it. Whether the primary parent is a mom or a dad, the person in this role works the 1st, 2nd & 3rd shift. Another reason to take as much of the load off as we can.

The fourth is democratic design, a concept created by Ikea to guide their designs. The idea that furniture, home accessories & design should be accessible to the majority, be inexpensive, good quality & sustainable. None of this insanely expensive just-for-looks interior design here.
